Date: July 15, 2021

Location: Mavrinac Park

Garbage (lbs): 1

Recycling (lbs): 2

This was our first park cleanup in July, which was completed with 4 members of our project group (we also had one of our friends volunteer to help us). We decided to start our project by cleaning up Mavrinac Park as it was a park we often visited, and we had noticed a lot of trash around it, especially near the playground and field areas. Being our first ever cleanup, we initially experienced some challenges using our tools and sorting the trash we picked up properly (some more research is needed to differentiate garbage from recycling). However, we soon settling into the cleanup process and by splitting up, we were able to work together to get through the entire park in just over 1 hour of work. At the end of the day, we were able to acquire 3 lbs total of trash, which will act as a benchmark of garbage for future cleanups. In terms of cleanliness, the lack of significant amounts of garbage came as a pleasant surprise, showing that Aurora's parks are surprisingly well-maintained.
