Date: July 20, 2021

Location: Rick Hansen PS/Ada Johnson Park

Garbage (lbs): 1.5

Recycling (lbs): 2.5

This was our second park cleanup in July, which was completed with 4 members of our project group. We decided to aim for Rick Hansen/Ada Johnson as our second park as it was a park that had high traffic, being near an elementary school, and was a large park used by many citizens. Thus, we believed we would be able to pick up lots of trash and clean up the area significantly. Having done our research, we were more comfortable with approaching the cleanup, splitting up into groups again and efficiently delegating roles to each member. We ended up having one member pick up trash while the other member would help hold the garbage and recycling bags. It was important to separate the trash into these 2 categories as we would ultimately be putting the trash into garbage bins around the park. At the end of our cleanup, we were able to acquire 4 lbs total of trash, a 33% increase from our first cleanup. This was to be expected given that the area of our cleanup this time was significantly larger; even so, we still had a lot of areas that we didn't have enough time to clean up in this session. We hope to finish cleaning up Ada Johnson Park sometime in the future.
